Flight & Height

Our Story

Channel Islands a few years ago (though it seems a lot longer) we met during a kayak outing into the water caves of the islands. Olga forgot pants and was walking around the harbor in the life-vest. Missy immediately thought she was badass and would be proven right again and again. On the boat ride back to mainland California, we chatted up on the deck. Next thing you know we were taking off to Tanzania together!

Thus started our friendship which has spanned some serious ups and downs. We suffered through altitude and food poisoning in Tanzania, impromptu meals on safari through the Serengeti, and the sketchiest coffee depot in Arusha. Flights all over California. Coffee breaks and adventure dreaming in all the down time.

Here we chronicle those dreams and making them a reality. Thank you for following along.

Olga Sannikova

Pilot

Olga began her dedication to flying at 16 and can navigate all things that swoop through the California blue skies. She pilots aircraft with wings from Cessnas and Pipers, and some without like rotorcraft Robertsons, and can smoothly land and take off on moonless nights from the remotest of fields. Her days are filled teaching piano to kids of all ages. From Mozart to Taylor Swift, she loves teaching and playing them all the same (maybe Chopin a little more).

Missy Washington

Climber

Missy comes from the Appalachian area of Virginia. With her two brothers, she was forced into child labor when her parents decided to build their own log house.

She studied illustration at Pratt Institute in New York, taking off with a backpack to explore the city any chance she got. When school was over, she sought out some sunshine and checked out the other coast. California provided the breeding ground for much adventure. She put in miles all up and down the coast, through the Sierras and the desert, but it wasn't until she found rock climbing that she discovered her true passion in the outdoors.

She has been climbing for three years now expanding her knowledge in all areas, with much more to learn. Recently she has started leading climbing trips with Beyond Boundaries. Similar to Outward Bound, this program sponsored by the non-profit New Earth, leads groups of youth into the outdoors for leadership and personal development.

Missy enjoys working with youth, serving as Art Director with a branch of the Boys and Girls Club in Los Angeles and also working for a year in a school in Cambodia, teaching art and working as the school's communications director.

Her passion for climbing stems from a love of nature's hard to reach places as well as a desire to always challenge herself.

Her goals in the future include setting foot on rock (or snow) in the Himalaya, learning mountaineering skills, sharing the benefits of climbing and the outdoors with youth, documenting it all through sketchbooks, and hanging out with you by a campfire.
